Entrepreneur Expo Draws Potential
Business Owners to Martin County
February 4th was no lazy Saturday in Martin County! Martin County, Bear Grass, Robersonville and Williamston joined forces to host an Entrepreneur Expo at the Bob Martin Agricultural Center. The event was advertised across eastern NC as a resource for people looking to start new businesses or expand existing businesses in our county.
Admission was free and attendees had the opportunity to attend seminars hosted by Martin Community College’s Small Business Center. The seminars covered everything from taxes to business licensing to corporate structuring, creating a business plan and marketing (links to seminar presentations can be found below).
There were a variety of vendors present to network with potential business owners. Martin County, Bear Grass, Robersonville, Williamston and Electricities were available for consultation on what types of businesses would do well according to leakage studies, franchise opportunities, zoning regulations, permitting, available commercial properties, and more.
The Boyd Agency was available to give advice on insurance requirements for businesses. Carr, Riggs & Ingram Accounting Firm was available for advice on tax regulations and business structuring. Legal Shield was on site to offer affordable legal plans for new businesses. PNC Bank was present to cover traditional funding options, and the Carolina Small Business Development Fund was there to present other options for entrepreneurs needing access to capital.
Business Link NC offered their free services on navigating state regulations. NC Retail Merchants Association covered a variety of topics including small business management and compliance issues. Your Social Media Gal was there to give advice on marketing and getting on Google Maps.
There were also a variety of suppliers and equipment providers on site. US Foods was present to offer wholesale food to new restaurants, and Whitecap Linen was available for wholesale paper products and table settings. The ABS Commercial Microbrewery Group was available to provide equipment, advice and services for new microbreweries.
