Welcome to the City of Lapeer. For many who visit this site, this message may well be your introduction to our City. The City was chartered on March 30, 1869 and we celebrated our 150th birthday in 2019. We are a City with a rich history as well as a very bright future. From origins as a lumber town, we have become a diversified economy with a wide range of manufacturing industries. We are home to the largest solar energy farm east of the Mississippi River.
We are a well-run City from City administration to the Department heads to the talented and dedicated City employees. We are a community that values our shared hopes and aspirations. We have a proud tradition of taking care of our own when those among us need support. We are blessed to have churches and service organizations that contribute their time, talent and treasure to making the City a better place in which to work, play, live and raise a family. We have first rate public and private schools, amazing parks and linear trails and a vibrant arts and entertainment community.
Area businesses, Main Street and the community have invested much in revitalizing our downtown area including the beautiful new pocket park. New businesses in our City and are getting or have recently received major facelifts to a number of our buildings. We boast both fine dining venues and cozy breakfast nooks. Our business community extends far beyond the downtown area and encompasses a wide range of retail, lodging, dining and other services along both the M-24 corridor and the M-21 corridor.
The Lapeer Area Chamber of Commerce organizes the annual Lapeer Days Festival and the Fourth of July Fireworks. Our veteran’s organizations will “Never Forget” those who served and those who continue to serve. It is all of that which makes the City of Lapeer special. In the City of Lapeer, “community” is much more than a geographic location. It is who we are. I invite you to join us and take full advantage of all that we have to offer.
Please consider getting involved in your community. The City has several boards and commissions where we need your help. Contact our City Clerk, Romona Sanchez, for information on the various boards and how to apply.
